Teresa Mowery, Coppersmith
I am a Rhode Island-based metalsmith specializing in copper, where I use chemistry and patinas to create unique, nature-inspired designs. My work is deeply influenced by fractal patterns, microscopic imagery, and the natural aging of objects, as well as the beauty of local wildlife and landscapes. I document these inspirations and translate them into my art, focusing on the interplay of color, texture, and geometry to evoke a sense of timelessness and wonder.
Some of my more unique artwork arrives from a collaboration with my husband, a commercial coppersmith.
My foundation in art began with formal training as a jeweler, earning a BFA from the Maine College of Art in 1992. This background instilled a strong sense of design that continues to shape my work. Over the years, I’ve built a diverse professional career, working for esteemed jewelers in New York and Maine, teaching art, managing the Museum School at the Fuller Museum in Brockton, MA, and developing an art program for adults with developmental disabilities at the Maher Center in Middletown, RI. I also maintained a retail gallery and showroom for eight years, featuring my artwork alongside a curated selection of handcrafted, made-in-the-USA craft items.
My work reflects a harmonious blend of science and creativity, appearing in galleries, corporate installations, and private collections across the United States.
